Canine Anxiety

Presented by: John Ciribassi, DVM, Dipl. ACVB

About Dr. Ciribassi

The seminar will explore conditions in dogs that have anxiety as their basis and therefore are considered to be abnormal displays of canine behavior. While there are many inappropriate, but normal, behaviors that are often managed by proper training, the conditions being discussed are characterized by the degree to which anxiety drives the dog's response and, therefore, cease to be a training issue alone.

The topics include:

  • Behavioral Pharmacology - A brief description of the use of medication in the management of some behavior problems in dogs
  • Compulsive Disorders in Dogs - A discussion of the evaluation and management of compulsive disorders including behaviors such as tail chasing, flank sucking, fly snapping, spinning and excessive licking
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Noise and Thunderstorm Phobias
  • Dominance Terminology
  • Fear Based Aggression - *its not all about dominance*
  • Resource Guarding
